Director of Engineering, Shopify

Narvar is growing! We are seeking an entrepreneurial and hands on Director of Engineering to lead our engineering efforts within the Shopify ecosystem. This is a critical leadership role where you will drive the technical direction and execution of our Shopify-native experiences-building best in class solutions for some of the largest and most innovative merchants on the platform.
You will partner closely with Product, Design, and GTM teams to scale our established Shopify applications to the next level, cementing Narvar's position as the market leader in post purchase experiences. This is a high impact, player coach role for an engineering leader who thrives on building teams, shipping high quality software, and mentoring engineers in a fast paced, high growth SaaS environment.
This role reports to the CTO.
Day-to-day- Lead and grow a high performing engineering team focused on delivering world class Shopify native solutions that delight both merchants and end consumers.
- Translate business and product requirements into clear technical roadmaps and engineering execution plans.
- Partner closely with Product Management to define the technical strategy-building scalable, intelligent, and secure integrations leveraging platform APIs, webhooks, and workflows.
- Inspire, mentor, and develop your team, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Drive modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and observability, ensuring frequent, high quality releases.
- Collaborate cross functionally with Product, UX, Sales, and Customer Success to ensure a seamless experience across the Shopify merchant lifecycle.
- Partner with Recruiting to attract, hire, and retain exceptional, diverse engineering talent.
- Provide production support for key merchant experiences, proactively improving reliability, scalability, and performance.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- 15+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5+ years managing managers and senior engineers.
- Proven experience building and scaling high performance SaaS products in an agile, cloud native environment.
- Hands on technical expertise in at least one of: Ruby, Java, Python, Go, or Node.js, with a deep understanding of API driven architectures.
- Experience with the Shopify ecosystem-including APIs, Flows, webhooks, OMS, POS, and payment systems-is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build scalable, reliable, and high availability systems using modern frameworks and cloud technologies (AWS, GCP).
- Track record of partnering closely with Product and Design to deliver high quality features at speed.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non technical stakeholders.
- A leadership style that values empowerment, inclusion, and technical excellence.
- Prior experience developing or scaling Shopify apps or e commerce integrations.
- Knowledge of rules engines, workflow orchestration, or event driven architecture.
- Experience building AI augmented or data driven product features.
- Ability to think strategically like a Product Manager while operating tactically as an Engineering leader.

Below is the estimated annual salary for this position and does not include the other components that make up a Narvar offer including: annual bonus, equity, and benefits. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across the US. Within the range, individual compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, skill set, education and certifications, and work location.
$230,000 - $300,000 CAD
