Course Providers: Introduction to Dance for People Living with Parkinson's

Location: Across the UK

Are you interested in delivering in-person courses to train people who may want to deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills in the field of dancing with Parkinson's? We are seeking experienced practitioners from across the UK.

We are seeking highly experienced, competent and confident lead teaching artists/practitioners who wish to work in association with People Dancing to offer training courses to complement and augment our online introductory course co developed with Dance for PD and Mark Morris Dance Group.

This opportunity is open to dance practitioners from across the UK who:

  • Have previously completed the Introduction to Dance for People with Parkinson's Online Course and Assessment
  • Are currently leading dance sessions for people living with Parkinson's
  • Can demonstrate a proven track record of designing and delivering high quality dance training for other dance practitioners.
About People Dancing's courses and qualifications

People Dancing's online training courses and in person workshops are designed to support dancers, teaching artists and community practitioners to develop the skills and knowledge needed for high quality and inclusive dance work with people and communities.

Our online courses are developed in partnership with leading practitioners and organisations working in the field and experts from the People Dancing team. Courses can be accessed online 24hrs a day seven days a week so learners can learn at a time and pace that suits their lifestyle. Many of the online courses are supported by in person training sessions offered by People Dancing or its partners around the world. Our in person courses are diverse, inclusive and led by highly experienced and respected dance artists and practitioners.

People Dancing's courses and workshops can enable learners to gain the skills and knowledge needed to obtain our Professional Qualifications following successful completion of an assessment.

A brief Introduction to Dance for People with Parkinson's course

The online course, Introduction to Dance for People with Parkinson's, was developed by People Dancing, Dance for PD , and Mark Morris Dance Group. It provides dance practitioners and others with core foundational knowledge about the safe, effective, and creative delivery of dance sessions for people living with Parkinson's. The course covers ten carefully designed topics all relevant to facilitating/leading dance for people with Parkinson's.

The online course and its associated qualification Approaches to Dance for People with Parkinson's, is used as the foundational training for this field of work in 39 countries around the world.

Developing and delivering your course

We are seeking one experienced dance practitioner from each of the nine English regions, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Applicants should demonstrate their experience in devising and delivering in person courses that enable other dancers to learn about this topic and work towards gaining the People Dancing Professional Qualification Approaches to Dance for People with Parkinson's.

We will expect you to:
  • Demonstrate that you have current, relevant experience of working in the field of dancing with Parkinson's including leading and teaching classes for a minimum of three years
  • Devise and deliver a one or two day course, based on a course outline that we will provide
  • Recruit learners from your region
  • Set and retain your own fees for your course
  • Complete all your own administrative requirements (eg venue hire)
  • Require learners to take the Introduction to Dance for Parkinson's online course as a precursor to your in person course delivery (group discounts are available for your learners)
  • Encourage learners to take the People Dancing Professional Qualification Approaches to Dance for People with Parkinson's
  • Hold appropriate insurance
  • Process all data in line with legal requirements
  • Have access to a suitable venue that supports the effective and high quality delivery of courses for all participants once or twice a year
  • Acknowledge and integrate the importance and value of including the experiences of people living with Parkinson's throughout the course
  • Be committed to embracing difference in all its forms, supporting everyone to realise their potential.
We will support you by:
  • Providing a course outline that you can use for the basis of your own course development
  • Providing supporting resources (eg sample session plans, risk assessment forms, discounts for the online course for groups of 6 learners or more etc)
  • Giving you free access to the online course so you can refresh your knowledge of specific topics
  • Delivering an online induction where you can ask questions about our expectations, the online course and qualification
  • Advertising the courses you run via People Dancing newsletters
  • Enable you to use a new People Dancing Associate Delivery Partner logo.
