Posted 3 hours 48 minutes ago by NHS National Services Scotland
We are looking to welcome a new Consultant colleague to join a dedicated and forward thinking Acute Medicine team within NHS Lanarkshire. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and supportive department focused on delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients with acute medical presentations.
University Hospital Wishaw is a busy district general hospital and part of the Lanarkshire Acute Division, providing a wide range of inpatient and specialist services. The Acute Medicine unit manages a high turnover of both planned and unscheduled admissions, supported by a multidisciplinary team including specialty and core trainees, advanced nurse practitioners, and physiotherapists.
We offer a flexible, sustainable working pattern with annualised sessions and strong support for SPA activity in education, quality improvement, and research. The post is full time (10 PAs) but applicants seeking less than full time will be considered. Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), medical education, research & development, acting as an appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified recruitment lead and/or service manager (provide contacts) who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate's professional and service requirements.
Applicants should hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise and be on, or within six months of, the specialist register for acute or general (internal) medicine.
Informal enquiries are welcomed by Dr Colin Stewart, Clinical Director via email .
Interview date: 18th December 2025.
