Job overviewWe are seeking to recruit a Substantive Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine to join our dynamic and friendly department, based at our Worthing Hospital site. The department is extremely forward thinking and has established itself within the research arena, with multiple presentations at National and International meetings. The hospital is located between the sea and the South Downs National Park, giving ample opportunity to pursue a variety of different interests
Main duties of the jobThe clinical duties of the post include the following:
One in nine weeks as the Consultant on the Intensive care unit. There is a requirement to participate in the out of hours on call rota.
Successful candidates will play an active role in departmental teaching, research, governance, service development, and pursuing their own clinical interests. ICU Clinical Governance meetings are held every two months in conjunction with St Richard's ITU and there is a monthly Morbidity and Mortality Meetings.
We have a multidisciplinary approach to Critical Care and enjoy excellent support from respiratory physiotherapy and dietetics. We also have daily consultant-led microbiology ward rounds, and a monthly MDT critical care follow up clinic run by Outreach with direct consultant supervision.
Non-ICU DCC will be undertaken in the complementary specialty and is subject to job planning and requirements of the service

Person specification Experience/ Qualifications- Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview
- Higher Degree
- FRCA, FCEM, FRCP, other postgraduate exams
- Specific training in paediatric critical care
- Significant and ongoing experience in adult intensive care medicine
- Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
- ATLS, APLS, ALS provider or equivalence
- Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
- Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams.
- Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
- Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Recognised teaching qualification
