About us

We are looking for somebody passionate about libraries and the role they can play in transforming the lives of children, young people and families, and who is keen to promote wellbeing in the community by combating loneliness and social exclusion.

You'll be experienced in working as part of a team, proactive with your workload and able to support colleagues in the absence of the Area Supervisor.

If you're brilliant at helping customers with enquiries, skilled at promoting and facilitating access to digital services, enthusiastic about developing the library as a community hub and passionate about supporting and delivering community events, then we want to hear from you.

We're always exploring ways to enhance our offer and looking for someone who can share ideas, highlight creative solutions and has a keen interest in delivering the key priorities for the library service.

This role involves working as part of a library group across multiple sites, so applicants must be willing and able to work at multiple locations. Buckingham Library and Winslow Community Library will be the two main locations, with additional travel to libraries across Buckinghamshire.

  • Fridays 10 - 2pm
  • Alternate Saturdays 10 - 1pm (one week on, one week off)
  • Sundays - X

As part of this role, you will:

  • Directly deliver library services to customers and resolve complex enquiries escalated by volunteers, e.g. by signposting to council services at the library's Council Access Point role.
  • Be responsible for opening and closing the library, ensuring the building is in good order and carrying out regular health and safety checks.
  • Work with service colleagues to maintain a diary of planned activities and partner events, developing the library as a community hub, particularly around cultural participation and health and wellbeing.
  • Be proactive in marketing and monitoring the use of Library Flex, including training customers in the use of the technology and delivering site specific induction sessions.
  • Support delivery of the library service, resolve complex customer enquiries, maintain stock and supervise a group of volunteers including trustees and friends groups.
