Board Member Opportunity

Co-op Homes, Teddington

£3,000 per annum

Who we are.

For over 35 years, Co-op Homes has been at the heart of community-led housing, managing and supporting a wide range of housing co-operatives and community-based organisations.

As part of the RHP Group, we're proud of our long tradition of supporting the housing cooperative movement. Co-op Homes provide housing management services to housing co-ops and manage stock of social housing of our own with a co-operative ethos. Our work is driven by a vision that housing can be done differently by focusing on communities and supporting residents to work together for long-term, collective benefit.

Who we're looking for.

We're now looking for new Board Member to join us at an exciting time in our journey. This is an opportunity to contribute your skills, insight and passion to an organisation that values collaboration, fairness and social impact. Board Members play a vital part in ensuring Co-op Homes remains strong, stable and focused on the future by shaping our strategic direction, ensuring good governance, and supporting decisions that enable us to deliver for our communities.

This is a generalist role, you don't need prior Board or housing association experience. What matters most is your ability to think strategically, work collaboratively, and share our values. We're looking for people who can bring diverse perspectives and life experience, and who are motivated by making a real difference to people's lives. You might have experience in community development, finance, housing, business, or the public or voluntary sectors, or simply have a strong interest in helping communities thrive. You do not need to bring existing board experience, but we are looking for someone who is 'board ready', meaning that you will have senior decision-making experience and a good understanding of the role of a board. We encourage applications from people who combine relevant expertise with lived experience of social housing or experience of living in a housing co-operative. We would also welcome applications from people belonging to groups which tend to be underrepresented in board positions.

What you will do:

  • Contribute to the strategic direction of Co-op Homes and the wider RHP Group
  • Ensure that our work supports our charitable purpose
  • Help maintain the organisation's financial stability, sustainability and long-term success
  • Support and challenge the Senior Management Team, offering insight, advice and constructive scrutiny
  • Uphold our commitment to robust governance, transparency, equal opportunity and diversity
  • Champion our values and help shape a culture that reflects our social purpose

Why Join Us?

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible impact on people's lives, develop your strategic thinking, and gain valuable board-level experience in a supportive environment. You'll work alongside experienced colleagues who are passionate about creating better places to live and building resilient communities.

This is a paid opportunity, with an annual salary of £3,000.
