Job Description
About the Place

Ashfield is a proud, ambitious district in the heart of Nottinghamshire, a place defined by strong communities, creativity and enterprise. Our towns and villages are transforming, supported by over £100 million of investment through the Towns and Future High Streets Funds. We're modernising our centres, unlocking new housing and employment sites, and building vibrant, sustainable places where people want to live, work and invest.

We're recognised as one of the best-performing councils in the region and continue to "punch above our weight". As we prepare for Local Government Reorganisation, we're focused on ensuring Ashfield enters the next chapter from a position of real strength, with our assets, services and people ready for the future.

About the Role

As Assistant Director - Assets, you'll be responsible for the strategic and operational management of a diverse property portfolio of around 300 assets, from council buildings and depots to industrial units, community facilities and investment properties.

You'll oversee teams managing facilities, commercial investments, and energy and climate programmes, ensuring our assets are safe, compliant and delivering value for money. A key priority will be developing and implementing a new strategic asset management plan, understanding the condition, value and potential of the portfolio, and shaping decisions about investment, community transfer and disposal.

You'll also take a lead on preparing the Council's estate for Local Government Reorganisation, ensuring we have the insight, data and strategy in place to make informed, evidence-based decisions about our assets. Working closely with the Executive Director - Operations, elected members and colleagues across the organisation, you'll help drive Ashfield's ambition to move from good to great.

About You

You'll be an experienced property and asset management professional, with the credibility, technical expertise and leadership skills to manage a large and varied portfolio. You'll bring a balance of commercial and public service perspective, understanding how to optimise assets for both financial return and community benefit.

You'll be confident working in a political environment and skilled at building productive relationships across services and with partners. Analytical and data-driven, you'll use evidence to drive decision-making and deliver improvement. Above all, you'll be a collaborative, pragmatic and empowering leader who supports high-performing teams and gets results.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a high-performing, forward-thinking council where ambition, teamwork and delivery define the culture and where your impact will be visible from day one.
