LOCATION: Salford - Dock House - Hybrid with 1 day per week in Office (Office Day = Tuesday)
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £44,000 - £54,000, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join the BBC Passports team, working in one of the most exciting areas of content metadata and knowledge graph: Passports. We build and maintain the next generation of metadata for improving content discovery and audience experience across BBC services. As a Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in developing software and providing support that meets the complex business needs, improving team's software development process, and helping deliver creative excellence that connects with global audiences.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Work with project, product and technical leads to develop effective software that meets complex product, and business needs according to the specifications and tasks at feature and component level.
  • Participate in the team's agile planning and delivery process.
  • Participate in and help improve the team's software development methodologies such as pair programming, code and documentation reviewing, and continuous delivery.
  • Deliver work to successful completion across the immediate team including writing appropriate tests using automated test-driven techniques for ensuring code quality and coverage.
  • Integrate the software with monitoring and support tools.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Proficient in building scalable, production-grade backend services using Typescript, adhering to SOLID principles, and deploying on AWS.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipeline, adhering to IaC and DevOps practice.
  • Experience in pair programming, TDD, and agile process.
  • Collaboration within a team - ability to speak up clearly, reasoning, challenge, agree, commit and follow the practice.
  • Learn new technologies and keep informed of existing technologies eagerly
DESIRED
  • Understanding of microservice and serverless architectures, SPARQL, graph database and OpenSearch.
  • Understanding of AWS Cloud Development Kit and GitHub Actions
  • Understanding of types of tests like unit test, integration test, end-to-end test, smoke test, regression test, and load test
  • Takes responsibility for delivering tasks to completion.
