Job Description

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has a 12 month Fixed Term Contract opportunity available from January 2026 for a Senior Clinical Fellow level post in Plastic Surgery. This is a non-training post and the post holder will be expected to have experience and the ability to operate independently

Main duties of the job

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) has a vacancy to join the dynamic and friendly Plastic Surgery Unit it as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Skin Cancer Surgery available to start from January 2026 for 12 months. The post-holder is expected to hold the MRCS qualifications (or equivalent), and ideally hold FRCS (Plast) (or equivalent) and be experienced to the equivalent of at least ST7. This post does not carry accreditation for the purposes of surgical training, although the training will be of value to trainee surgeons. This post is required to cover elective duties (Monday to Friday) with no on call or weekend commitments.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification Education/Qualifications/Training
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • FRCS (Plast) or equivalent (DESIRABLE)
Experience
  • 4 years full time postgraduate training (or it's equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) ideally 2 of which need to be in plastic surgery
  • Ideally had some time working at plastic surgery registrar level
  • Ability to work comfortably at the clinical level of a specialist trainee year 7, including logbook evidence
  • Evidence of recent audit
  • Good grasp of audit methodology, and practice of Clinical Governance
  • Participated in MDT
  • Experience of skin cancer management including sentinel lymph node biopsies and block dissections
  • Evidence the ability to operate independently
Skills/Knowledge/Personal Att
  • Ability to lead/supervise more junior doctors
  • Ability to organise self and team for daily clinical work
  • Ability to use basic IT and computing systems
  • Additional relevant skills/achievements
  • Good personal and interpersonal skills
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Experience of teaching doctors-in-training and undergraduates
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS
  • Relevant publications in skin cancer
