Job Description

Job Title: Salaried GP - 6 Sessions 12-Month Fixed-Term (Maternity Cover)

Location: Newcastle

Salary: Dependent on experience

About the Role

We are looking for a salaried GP to join a friendly, supportive, and well-established teaching and training practice on a 12-month fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. This is a 6-session role ideally starting in January 2026, though a February start can be accommodated to encourage newly qualified GPs to apply.

You will join a collaborative team where daily clinical discussions, team lunches, and partner support ensure that you always have guidance at hand.

Our practice system is designed to maximize continuity of care and allow GPs to focus on the patients who need them most. All appointment requests are triaged to ensure patients are seen by the right clinician, maintaining holistic, relational GP care that is both effective and rewarding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide triage and booked patient appointments

  • Conduct a share of home visits (usually one per day)

  • Take part in weekly late calls

  • Manage usual doctor administrative responsibilities to cover the absent GP

  • Support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care

  • Well-established teaching and training practice with excellent feedback for team support

  • CQC rating: Good (January 2023)

  • 5 Partners (4 GP Partners + Business Partner)

  • Supportive Nursing and Administrative teams

  • On-site ANP, Pharmacist, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, and Link Worker

  • Patient list size: 6,700

  • Paper-light system using SystmOne

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Medical Degree

  • Full GMC registration

Desirable:

  • SystmOne trained

  • DBS check

Additional Requirements:

  • Current UK professional registration is essential

  • This post is subject to a DBS check as per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975
