Job Description
Principal Clinical / Counselling Psychologist - Plastic Surgery & Burns

This is a fixed-term post of 12 months.

To provide a specialised Psychology service to patients of the Plastic Surgery & Burns Service in Glasgow Royal Infirmary; providing highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.

The Clinical Psychology service within the Plastic Surgery & Burns Service provides specialist psychological therapy input to inpatients and outpatients with psychological problems associated with their condition. The patient groups treated within the service includes burns patients, those with certain forms of cancer (e.g. breast and skin cancer); those considering breast reconstruction following mastectomy; those with traumatic injuries requiring reconstruction; those with certain congenital abnormalities and those requesting exceptional procedures in the NHS.

To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service. To provide clinical and professional supervision to trainees undertaking Doctoral training. To undertake service development within own area of practice.

The postholder may be required to provide Clinical / Counselling Psychology input across the service area and at different bases as required.
