People Business Partner - 12 months contract
Salary: £50,000 - £58,000
Location: Birmingham/ Hybrid

Macmillan Davies are delighted to be working with an established and values-led organisation within the education sector who are seeking a People Business Partner to join their high-performing People Partnering team on a fixed-term basis for 12 months.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned HR professional to play a key role in delivering a proactive and strategic people service, supporting senior leaders across a network of schools and regional functions.

The Role

As People Business Partner, you will work closely with senior stakeholders to drive forward strategic people initiatives, ensuring effective employee relations and safeguarding practices are embedded across the region. You'll be trusted to influence, coach, and support leaders to achieve the organisation's people priorities and ensure compliance with employment legislation and best practice. This is a truly varied and strategic role, offering exposure to exciting projects across transformation, culture, and workforce planning. The ability to navigate complex ER matters and confidently represent the organisation in formal processes, including employment tribunals, will be key.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a trusted partner to senior leaders across the Birmingham region, providing expert advice on complex ER issues, safeguarding, and workforce planning.
  • Lead or support employment tribunal preparation and responses, working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner with leaders to develop and deliver people strategies aligned to organisational priorities.
  • Support the implementation of strategic people projects across engagement, performance, and culture.
  • Develop strong, credible relationships with unions, senior leaders, and central teams.
  • Contribute to the development of a high-performing People team, with potential to lead and mentor colleagues.
About You
  • CIPD qualified (Level 7 or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in employee relations, complex casework, and employment tribunals.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and HR governance in a public or education context would be desirable but not essential.
  • Skilled stakeholder manager with excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • A true team player, collaborative by nature and comfortable working across a matrix structure.
  • Confident to challenge, innovate, and drive continuous improvement in HR practice.
