Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to lead contractor engagement and support pre-construction planning for a major clean water infrastructure project. Based on-site at the Thames Water Coppermills WTW, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the delivery strategy by integrating contractor expertise into the design and execution phases. Job Description Subcontractor Strategy & Engagement Build strategic, long-term relationships with contractors to support successful project delivery. Liaise with contractors and assist in contract negotiations to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and commercial terms. Coordinate with internal teams and contractors to develop a cohesive pre-construction plan. Provide input on technical and commercial requirements during RFQs and vendor engagement. Project Delivery & Execution Planning Contribute to the development of a comprehensive delivery plan, incorporating contractor capabilities and logistical needs. Review engineering designs and advise on constructability to optimise execution strategies. Collaborate with project teams to integrate contractor plans into the overall design. Align with stakeholders on execution strategy and key project milestones. Commercial & Risk Planning Assess risks and opportunities related to contractor performance and integrate findings into project planning and cost estimates. Work with procurement teams to define mechanical scopes and technical requirements that reduce risk and enhance efficiency. Required Skills and Competencies Degree in Mechanical Engineering or demonstrably equivalent qualification. A minimum of four years' experience in project engineering on large-scale water or industrial projects. Demonstrable experience of managing the technical and supporting commercial interface with contractors, particularly during the pre-construction, tendering or planning phases. Experience in evaluating contractor proposals. Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective working relationships. Full UK driving license. Experience of working on projects within the Thames Water framework or for other major UK water utilities would be an advanage.
