Job Description

We're looking for a strategic and dynamic leader to shape sector-leading approaches to student engagement and communications at the University of Southampton.

Based within the Student Experience Directorate, you will lead a talented team that ensures students are well-informed, feel a strong sense of belonging, and are empowered to co-create their experience from enrolment to graduation.

You will provide strategic oversight of student communications, co-design approaches, and institutional work on student voice and survey engagement, including the National Student Survey (NSS).

Working collaboratively across the University, you will:

  • Lead the design and delivery of multi-channel student engagement campaigns across the full student lifecycle.
  • Champion co-design and student voice, embedding student feedback into institutional decision-making.
  • Ensure communications are clear, inclusive, accessible, and aligned to the University's strategic priorities.
  • Use data, insight and analytics to evaluate impact and drive continuous improvement.
  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders, Faculties and Professional Services to deliver joined-up, student-centred outcomes.
  • Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing team focused on innovation, collaboration and excellence.

We're seeking an experienced communications or engagement professional who brings:

  • A strong understanding of student experience and lifecycle engagement.
  • Proven success leading teams and delivering high-impact campaigns or initiatives.
  • The ability to build trust, influence and collaborate across complex organisations.
  • A creative and analytical mindset, confident in using data and insight to shape strategy.
  • A passion for inclusion, co-creation and outstanding student experiences.

At Southampton, we're ambitious for our students and our community. You'll join a supportive, forward-thinking Directorate that values creativity and professional excellence. We offer flexible working, generous leave and pension benefits, and opportunities for professional development and sector engagement.

This is a chance to lead work recognised nationally - helping to shape the future of student engagement at a world-class university.
