Job Description
Overview

Hackney Council offers an apprenticeship within the Building Maintenance Service, giving hands on experience alongside qualified operatives while attending college one day per week or on block release. Apprentices receive regular development, networking and progression workshops, a competitive salary, holiday entitlement and support while gaining a recognised qualification in their chosen trade.

Apprenticeship Trades and Responsibilities Carpentry Apprentice

The Carpentry Apprentice will acquire the skills required to become a qualified Carpenter. During the apprenticeship you will learn how to install, repair and maintain doors, windows, locks and other associated works in Hackney's residential and void properties and public buildings. Upon completion of Level 2 you will progress to Level 3.

Electrical Apprentice

The Electrical Apprentice will learn to install, repair and maintain electrical services. As an apprentice you will install wiring, lighting, power circuits, test for faults and repair defects, helping to maintain the upkeep of Hackney properties.

Commercial Gas Apprentice

The Commercial Gas Apprentice will gain skills to work on commercial gas services, providing heating and hot water to borough properties. You will install boilers, radiators and pipework, assist with servicing, repairs and maintenance of gas appliances, and learn to install and maintain air source heat pumps.

Plumbing Apprentice

The Plumbing Apprentice will work on property water services, installing and unblocking sinks and toilets, repairing leaks and installing pipework. You will aid in delivering effective plumbing repairs and maintenance to Council residents in their properties and public buildings.

Assessments: 6-7 July 2026

Interviews: 20-24 July 2026

All eligible Level 3 applicants will be invited to attend a Maths and English Initial Assessment. Attendance is required to progress to the next stage.
