Environmental Enforcement Officer

Environmental Enforcement Officer - Central London - £24.06 per hour (Umbrella)

A Central London Local Authority is seeking an Environmental Enforcement Officer to join their team on an interim basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for tackling and enforcing against a wide range of environmental crime issues under the Environmental Protection Act (EPA). This is a key role in maintaining clean, safe, and attractive public spaces across the borough.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out proactive and reactive patrols to identify and address environmental offences.
• Investigate and enforce offences such as commercial waste carrying and presentation, fly tipping, graffiti, fly posting, illegal vehicle repairs/sales on the public highway, and other enviro crime issues.
• Respond promptly to service requests and taskings from the management team.
• Engage with residents, businesses, and partners to promote compliance and raise awareness of environmental responsibilities.
• Prepare and issue enforcement notices, fixed penalty notices, and gather evidence to support prosecutions where necessary.
• Contribute to improving the borough's environmental quality through effective enforcement and community engagement.

Requirements

• Proven experience in environmental enforcement within a local authority or similar setting.
• Strong working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act (EPA) and related legislation.
• Excellent communication and report writing skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment.
• Confident in dealing with the public, including handling confrontation professionally.
