FSRI is committed to improving the health and well-being of children and families, and we are looking for a Special Education Director to collaborate with our management team to ensure the safety, stability, and wellbeing of residents placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families.
The Special Educational Director holds overall responsibility for special education services, ensures IDEA compliance, facilitates Evaluation Team Meetings, participates in IEP meetings for students with special education, reviews and/or revises IEPs, and works with the school's administrative team to improve achievement of all students with special education. This role is a part time year round administrative position.
Responsibilities- Hold overall responsibility for special education services.
- Ensure IDEA compliance and facilitate Evaluation Team Meetings.
- Participate in IEP meetings for students with special education.
- Review and/or revise IEPs.
- Collaborate with the school's administrative team to improve achievement of all students with special education.
- Conduct community visits and communicate effectively with staff and families.
- Provide emergency coverage and implement de escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
- Master's degree and three to five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification in Rhode Island as a special education administrator.
- Experience with children with behavioral or psychiatric challenges.
- Proficiency in operating various medical record software and hardware, word processing, and database software programs.
- Spanish speaking preferred (compensated).
- Flexible schedule.
- Excellent multitasking and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Bilingual/ASL skills compensated by additional 6% above base pay.
- Multilingual skills compensated by additional 8% above base pay.
- Current driver's license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to travel to and from community locations and office site, including walkways, stairs, and/or elevators.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to be trained in and implement de escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
