Consultant Paediatrician & Neonatologist

We're looking for a Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist to join our team on a full time basis.

This job is for a 10PA Consultant in Paediatrics and Neonatology. It offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Applicants are required to hold membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics & Children's Health and to be fully registered with the General Medical Council.

Main duties of the job

The primary aim of the Paediatrics Department is to provide the best possible quality of acute medical care. This includes services for the newborn as well as the care of children and young people. Our philosophy of care is one of quality, both in excellence of medical care and in the flexibility of service provision.

The person appointed will be one of a team of 10 Consultants who share the emergency on a rota basis (1 in 10 weekend and weekday on call).

They will undertake duties as Paediatrician of the Week and Neonatologist as well as leading General Paediatric, Ambulatory and Eating Disorder clinics.

The post holder is expected to participate in SPA and DCC activities as well as department based meetings for governance and audit and to supervise

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration and on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Knowledge
  • Evidence of achievement of competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice including: Good clinical care, Maintaining good medical practice, Good relationships and communication with patients, Good working relationships with colleagues, Good teaching and training, Professional behaviour and probity, Delivery of good acute clinical care.
  • Clinical knowledge and expertise in General Paediatrics and Neonatology to manage/ supervise and/or offer expert clinical opinion on patients presenting to the Paediatric Department and Neonatal Unit. Must be actively involved in caring for neonates in a Level 2 Unit.
  • Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit/research within team structure within the last 3 years.
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years.
  • Evidence of relevant academic achievement e.g. degrees, awards in last 3 years.
  • Evidence of relevant research e.g. presentations, publications in peer reviewed journals within the last 3 years.
  • Evidence of clinical knowledge and expertise relating to the management of eating disorders in children and young people.
Skills
  • Demonstrates skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues. Able to build rapport, listen, persuade and negotiate.
  • Ability to provide complete details of employment history.
  • Skills acquired to safeguard children effectively.
  • Skills acquired in practical procedures appropriate to Paediatrics and Neonatology.
  • Demonstrates clarity in written and spoken communication and capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation, particularly when communicating with children.
  • Able to work effectively in multi professional teams.
  • Evidence of clinically supervising a range of doctors in training with the ability to teach clinical and practical skills.
  • Basic IT skills.
